Going to discover Turkey, Georgia and their history
Turquie - Géorgie, les étapes

From Finike to Antalya

26 mai 2024

This time I had breakfast at the hotel. It was quite early, at 7.30am, and I was confident about the stage and the weather. But I still arrived a little early... An excellent Turkish breakfast, very complete and very good. About fifteen kilometres of flat before my route suggests a variation. I give it a go and pass through the famous greenhouse forests. Interesting, as the houses are mixed in with these greenhouses, and sometimes you can’t see them because a house has had extensions made of (…)

From Kaş to Finike

25 mai 2024

Still leaving before breakfast... But with my own resources, as these rats didn’t want to bother giving me anything out of schedule. The weather was fine but not as hot. At one point I have the choice of following the main road or my track. For the moment the main road goes downhill and my track goes uphill... I follow the track anyway and it’s a bit more hilly but very pleasant and there’s no more noise from the cars. The sea of greenhouses is still very impressive when you reach the plain (…)

From Fethiye to Kaş

23 mai 2024

Departure at 6.30 am again... This time having already nibbled on the snack prepared by the hotel. At the start I avoid the main road and take the small road with a high point at 430m. The highest point ? It’s strange, but a little later I’m still climbing and I think my GPS shows 484... Well, it’s fairly easy, the road is good and the gradient (around 10%) is steady. Temperatures : it’s 19°C when I set off, 26°C at 8am and over 30°C after 10am. There’s a lot of movement, but it won’t exceed (…)

From Dalyan to Fethiye

22 mai 2024

Leaving at 6.30 in the morning, it’s much better ! And what’s more, today it’s a bit cooler.
It was supposed to be a fairly short trip (61km) but... I’d forgotten to record the route with the precise address of the hotel, so I made a return trip of several kilometres from the centre of Fethiye.
The road was a bit hilly with five high points. The first wasn’t very high but had some nice climbs, the second at 230m on my route... but that’s if you take a tunnel with a toll : I don’t know if (…)

From Muğla to Daylan

21 mai 2024

Last night Aydin gave me a taste of Baklava, which is excellent with a scoop of melon ice cream !
This morning I’m off late after breakfast. I’m convinced that I’ll be going downhill most of the time. I stop to adjust my brakes, they need to be strong on the descent.
But it’s not all downhill... we start with a reasonably steep climb back to the altitude we were at the day before. Then the small road with its ups and downs. And so it goes until the end.
At the end I can’t go any (…)

From Milas to Muğla

20 mai 2024

The first real climb of the trip, at 740m. The gradients are regularly between 6 and 8%. A sign indicates 10%, but that doesn’t faze my computer, which so fleetingly displays a 10% mark that I almost didn’t see it. Even so, I don’t climb easily. Perhaps it’s the after-effects of yesterday’s long day. Finally at 11.30am, after three hours on the road, I reach the top and I’ve only done a third of the route... Things got better after that. My route takes me off the main road to avoid Yatagan. (…)

From Selçuk to Milas

19 mai 2024

I’d decided on a slightly long stage (with a few small gradients) because my initial plan to stop at Lac Bafa didn’t seem very interesting in the end : the only hotel is on the other side of the lake, and that would add around twenty kilometres, which I’d have to do again the next day... So I pushed a little further. Lac Bafa was 101 km, Milas 121... That’s pretty close, isn’t it ?
But I hadn’t taken the heat into account ; the weather really changed this weekend and the temperatures got (…)

From Izmir to Selçuk

18 mai 2024

As expected, the start from Izmir via the alleyways above the Bazaar is particularly steep. I had to push the bike quite a lot and change streets because the stairs were too hard to climb. And the map of this maze of alleyways is a bit sketchy, so my route is a bit sketchy too. One last staircase down (not too steep) to get to the main road that takes me out of Izmir and that’s it.
However, I arrive directly at a traffic junction that I’d underestimated a little, so I have to be very (…)

Visiting Izmir

17 mai 2024

In Izmir, I do a few basic things : cleaning, I go to an address I’ve found, nothing, I’m told another address, obviously I’m quickly lost, but as I’m walking around I come across a laundry. Then I buy an inner tube. Each time I get the tourist price, but never mind ^^ And a few other maintenance purchases. Thursday morning I have an appointment with Orhan, who’s going to show me around the city. Orhan had been contacted by Hayati, my warmshowers contact in Ayvalik. But between his working (…)

From Aliaga to Izmir

15 mai 2024

The quietest walk we’ve had since our last trip ! Fine weather, an almost flat route, and once past the rather difficult industrial port area, a calm environment, fields... But first we had to get past the industrial estate. For the first few hundred metres in this area, the lorries give off a cloud of dust that seems permanent. Then it calms down, the roads are better maintained and we arrive at the port with walls of containers waiting to be loaded. I’m surprised to see that the Eurovélo (…)
