Sardinia

Trip to Sardinia, via Camargue, Corsica, and back via Italy

Capo Ferrato - Cardedu

29 mai 2023

The climb north begins. Today’s route is not particularly worrying and is not particularly interesting either. Stage a little long with just a climb to 270m at the end. We mostly follow the "ex SS 125" except when it hasn’t been replaced by the "new SS 125" and in that case it’s simply the SS125 (cqfd). The new road they’ve made is like a motorway : no bikes, no hitchhikers, no motorised 2-wheelers under a certain engine capacity... except that it’s not a motorway : it’s a slightly wide (…)

Cagliari - Capo Ferrato

28 mai 2023

This morning I’d decided to go through the salt marshes rather than the cycle path along the beach, but nothing extraordinary. It’s just a bit quieter than along the road. It’s a very busy road, with people rushing to settle down on a piece of rock or sand they know, and soon the beaches I pass by are very full. After Villasimius it calms down ; have people arrived at their destination, or is it the lunch break ? It’s up and down pretty much all the time but after Solanas there’s the first (…)

Pula - Cagliari

26 mai 2023

I had hesitated to take this route, which is not recommended because you have to pass through the industrial area of Cagliari. It was Marta, my Warmshower host from the beginning of my stay in Sardinia, who advised me to do the previous stage as far as Pula , and it was worth it !
The route suggested by Komoot meant that I didn’t have to enter Cagliari via the port area and that I had to make a big diversions to the north, so the 35km turned into 65 ^^.
But you still have to pass through (…)

Sant’Antioco - Pula

25 mai 2023

Today I wanted to get to the campsite in Pula.
I set off along the same pretty cycle path as the day before, then some fairly busy roads before turning off onto a surprisingly wide cycle path (in fact a shared lane leading to a tourist port). Then a very pretty, fairly quiet road that follows the coastline.
Near the campsite, I follow the signs and I have the feeling that I’ve made a diversion. So a few extra kilometres.
I set up the tent and took my first bath in Sardinia. It’s warm, (…)

Carbonia - Sant’Antioco

24 mai 2023

A very short 17 km stage to reach my accommodation. But then a bit more to visit the island.
Very quickly from Carbonia a nice cycle path (and pedestrians) runs along the main road. At the fork in the road to Sant’Antioco Komoot sends me back to the main road and I discover a little later when I pass some cyclists that the track continues almost to the bridge that closes the peninsula. As soon as I can, I take the track again, it’s much quieter and very comfortable.
I arrive at my (…)

Arbus - Carbonia

23 mai 2023

I didn’t set the alarm clock... so I leave a bit late, 9:30 am. I have a lot of road with an option to do or not... The track sends me first on a small road which allows to avoid the main road. Then a steady climb and I arrive around 11am at the top of the Biddardi pass, the highest point of my route. I pass Bugghero, and start the climb to the second high point, it looks like a pass, even if I don’t see the name, it’s between two small peaks between 500 and 600m and the climb is steeper (…)

Oristano - Arbus

22 mai 2023

This weekend, heavy rain and storms were forecast. So I had booked a cheap flat in the historical centre of Oristano to stay dry. As the weather was finally going to be bad also on Sunday I negotiated with my landlord for an extra day... I only set off again this morning : 30 kilometres of flat road where I would often ride quietly between marshes or cultivations on dry marshes. To cross the Laguna di Marceddi there is a bridge that I was told at the tourist office in Oristano was closed to (…)

Baso - Oristano

19 mai 2023

After a good breakfast, we start on a sunnier road than expected ! It won’t last, but I’d like to get to Oristano before the rain.
Regular climb, announced several times by signs at 10%. However, in the village of Sinariolo the track takes me to a staircase ! After the staircase the path seems to be overgrown, so I turn back !
A bit further on I see that the track leaves the main road... it seems uncertain and I stay on the main road (I won’t even see the entrance of the track when (…)

Alghero - Bosa

18 mai 2023

After a good breakfast I take the road. I was hoping for a last sunny day on the road which promised to be very pretty, but the sun remains behind the clouds, it will make timid breakthroughs in the late morning.
Still a short ride but with some nice little climbs
On the road I only see motorhomes and motorbikes passing me, the locals don’t use it much.
Then surprise in the last climb I am overtaken by about twenty second hand sports convertibles from the 60s. On the way up there was no (…)

Sassari - Alghero

17 mai 2023
