Well, the attempt to use the motorway didn’t really work out. This morning I decided to take the route suggested by Komoot, but I didn’t fancy the prospect of doing fifteen kilometres backwards, so I took the route that involves the motorway...
It’s not really cool... One tunnel is fine, but when they’re one after the other it ends up stressing you out. You also have to be careful with the grids that allow the bridges to expand : they’re not really made for bike wheels...
And you really have no choice : the old national road is effectively cut off or replaced by the motorway...
Once past the small section of motorway, the national road under construction is very hard to ride on : narrow with a damaged verge. You drive in the dust of the roadworks.
The only compensation was perhaps that I climbed to 900m more regularly and avoided about twenty kilometres...
In short, I wouldn’t do it again unless there was a really good reason.
The search for accommodation
As usual, it’s a struggle to find the exact location of the "Family House". The booking link seems to work, but it leads to a fence... I think it must be on the other side... I end up hailing some young people in a garden, they seem to know the place but I don’t understand the landmark they’re giving me... I pass a police station and ask them. A guy explains it to me with Google maps... I make my first tour of the neighbourhood, but it’s not there. I ask other people : each time people feel obliged to give me a place to go, but it’s never the right one. A taxi driver asked me for money to help me when he had absolutely no idea where it was. I ended up calling, the lady explained it to me and I found it very quickly. I’d driven past it several times but hadn’t recognised it from the photos...
A rest and then a short visit to Surami. It’s a cute little village with a lot of pretty old abandoned houses.
