Porte Puymorens - Aulus les Bains

25 juillet, kilomètres aujourd’hui : 104
Kilomètres depuis le début : 360

I only had a few hundred metres to go to reach the first pass of the day. It was cool but fine and I arrived at the Col de Puymorens at around 8.30am. It’s hard to read the sign because it’s so covered in all sorts of stickers. Once over the pass, I’m in a freezing drizzle, and it’s less than 7 degrees on the way down. The rain stopped around Hospitalet d’Andorre and I took a long break in a bakery to eat and warm up.
Then it’s down to Ax les Thermes without a hitch. The main road to Tarascon is very busy and I can’t wait to turn off. The sky is always changing but I’ll be lucky to avoid the rain until the end.
Lunch break at Vicdessos, then I hit the road. This pass, the Port de l’Hers, is harder than the previous one, with gradients of often 8 or 9% and peaks of eleven or thirteen. But at last I arrived. It’s cold and cloudy, but it feels like a shower has been avoided ! I have a chat with a guy who is crossing the Pyrenees from Biarritz and thinks he’ll be arriving in Perpignan in two days’ time.
Then the Col d’Agnès, a little less difficult but I’m starting to feel the fatigue. Then a twelve-kilometre descent : the thermometer on my bike computer shows a falling temperature, but when I stop it’s back up again ^^.
