The Canal de la Robine is undergoing works [1] so I download the alternative route and follow a pretty little road that passes through vineyards and the estates that run them.
On the way back to the canal, beware of the many voracious mosquitoes. Opposite the island of St Lucia, there’s a picnic table in the shade of a superb tree, but I’ll only stay long enough to swat away 5 or 6 mosquitoes, then finish my sandwich in the sun... In the evening, the meal will be even better, with a good, inexpensive menu overlooking the sea !
Early start the next day. I check the weather forecast, but I don’t see the thunderstorms in Prades that had been forecast for the previous few days. It’s a good thing I left early, as from 10am the cycle paths are filled with convoys of people on bikes, many of them electric... Otherwise the road is fairly quiet as far as Millars, mainly cycle paths or low-traffic roads. On reaching the main road, there is a small pass in compensation, the Col de Ternère at 233m [2]. The expected/unexpected storm finally arrives and I take shelter in Vinça under the roof of a disused petrol station...
Arriving in Prades, I had to wait for my landlady to open and protect me from the rain. It’s a good opportunity to have tea with ‘Au Péché Mignon’ delicacies 😄
