Plougasnou to Perros-Guirrec

31 juillet 2020

While trying to reach a campsite not far from Lannion (where I had to make a stopover) I just missed two stages that I had to do ! There was no campsite immediately next to Lannion and I passed Perros-Guirrec... I had skipped that I had to do so many stages along the coast for so few kilometers.
So to reach the campsite I went through a very unpleasant busy county road.
On the way I attended the collection of green algae. Impressive if it is the same volume that is collected every day. (...)

Roscoff to Plougasnou

30 juillet 2020

Today people are suffocating : it’s not the heatwave like in Toulouse but it was still 29 !
I took a lunch break in Morlaix on a small square with benches and trees to put them in the shade. At noon it looked like the meeting place for all the bike riders in the region !
I leave again around 1pm... It’s going up and it’s hot but fortunately the passages in the climbs are well planted with trees.
The municipal campsite of Plougasnou is full ! I thought I’d ride a few kilometers less... (...)

Roscoff and Batz island

29 juillet 2020

Yesterday evening visit of Roscoff and today visit of the island of Batz.
Roscoff : very nice old stones.
The island of Batz, everyone told me a lot of good things about it and the brochure of the tourist office does not lie : the island has not lost its identity. It is not entirely eaten by tourism and there is still an important agriculture.

Lannilis to Roscoff

28 juillet 2020

A little more drizzle at the start of Lannilis... Time to put the covers on the saddlebags... and that’s it...
As the morning progresses, the weather becomes nice and it becomes pleasant. We go along the coast staying at some distance most of the time : the coast is often occupied by camp sites or camper van areas. There are quite a lot of houses built there as well...
The cycle route goes through quite pleasant shared roads.
Arrival at the campsite : luckily it’s not too crowded, it (...)

Le Conquet to Lannilis

27 juillet 2020

After a break of a few days at Bruno and Vanessa’s, I leave for Plouguernau, or rather Lannilis where I found a room.
Departure this morning pushed by the wind, I hope to pass between the drops but a little after eleven o’clock the gray present on the sea comes to spill on the land and I’ll have half an hour of drizzle.
I eat in a working class restaurant in Portsall where when we sit down we get a plate with pâté, melon, a piece of sausage, rapped carrots... In short, almost a meal (...)

Crozon, Le Conquet passing by Oceanopolis

23 juillet 2020

Departure this morning, under the more customary Brittany skies, towards Brest by taking the boat from Le Fret.
The boat drops me off at Oceanopolis where I had booked a ticket. I can leave my bike in a garage inside the site : it’s reassuring for the saddlebags.
It’s been a long time since I had not seen aquariums there. The three buildings Brittany, Tropical and Polar have many fish of all kinds and of course I discover a lot of things I don’t know. I spend three hours there and I have (...)

Crozon Peninsula

22 juillet 2020

Stroll this morning to Camaret, then the pointe de Pen’hir and that of Dinan. Return via Crozon where I went shopping. I had planned to go to the pointe des Espagnols but while discussing with the lady of the campsite this morning she tells me that it’s better to go to Camaret then to the pointe de Dinan which is prettier.
Camaret is a pretty little port with a "Vauban" tower to defend the port. Just next to it a rather pretty church.
A little further I am surprised by an alignment of (...)

Douarnenez to Crozon

21 juillet 2020

Wind and slopes... but also a magnificent blue sky since the morning and the most beautiful views I have ever had on the course.
The view of the bay that I follow from above or up close most of the time.
But also the chapel of Sainte-Anne de la Palud. Very beautiful, close to the sea and a little isolated. The history of its name is interesting : in ancient times the people who lived there worshipped the goddess Ana, goddess of fertility (I think). A Catholic monk came to build a (...)

Concarneau to Douarnenez

20 juillet 2020

The day begins with a navigation error made the day before : when I prepared my day I opened a new tab of the site I use and I omitted to check "bike" so I logically had the route for a car.
So I wonder why at the start of Concarneau I would not take the green lane which seems quite suitable. Shortly after I took it I am caught up by another bike that gets up to me and we start talking. He has just finished his night’s work and he is going home ! He bikes a lot and he shows me the roads (...)

Lorient to Concarneau

18 juillet 2020

Last night I searched the historic center of Lorient... Impossible, no old stones. Everything was destroyed during the war. There are lively neighborhoods, all kinds of restaurants, but no old stones.
I don’t know why I wanted to stop in Quimperlé... I’m looking for information and I can’t find anything very interesting... At the campsite the person at the reception tells me that Quimperlé is for resting... I’ll only make one stopover and then I’ll go straight to Concarneau.
As usual (...)
