A beautiful day: the sun from morning to evening, and Roland came to meet me from the bottom of southern Austria where his father lives to spend the afternoon with me!
In the morning the lady of the hotel told me that I had to cross, so take the ferry, to go to Melk. I don’t really want to wait, I’ll keep on. For a few kilometres there is not really a bike path, but there are not many cars or trucks. I’m about to change banks at the first bridge but the "official" road is on my side and on the map the passage to Melk was well stamped eurovelo, so I keep going!
I thought I would arrive early but I often have the wind in front of me, quite strong.
Arrived at the Melk lock for a moment of worry: there is a sign for prohibited access and "Privat" and the large gate that blocks access is only open the width of a bicycle! One last check and I commit myself, as soon as I’m on the bridge, there are other bikes.
I drop my things off at the hotel and meet Roland and we’ll have a bite to eat on the terrace in the sun.
Roland has planned a guided tour of Sift Melk, with a French guide. We believe for a while that we will be the only French people, but not a group is already there... A one-hour guided tour that passes quickly with a lot of interesting information.
Tomorrow departure for Vienna, a rather long stage I hope there will not be too much wind!
