Bejar - Salamenca

16 June 2022, kilometres today: 78
Kilometres since the start: 3429

I save ten minutes this morning: departure at 7.05 am! The weather is cool after the storm and rain of the day before, I even put on my jacket.
We have to go down the hill on which Bejar is perched and then go up the other side. There seems to be a cycle track that used to run under Bejar on the route of an old railway. A track that must have served the disused factories in this valley... I’ll have to see if I could have taken this track, which would have meant not passing Bejar.
The sky stays cloudy for a long time and the temperature remains mild.

I was afraid of the climb to 1100m but in the end we got to the top quite easily. What is difficult is afterwards: this long straight line that does not serve any village. Let’s say you have to make a detour to go to the villages, and if you’re not sure if the café is open, you don’t really want to make the diversions.
A guy catches up with me on his bike, he’s doing the Camino de Santiago by bike, something he does every year apparently, by various routes. He does 100km stages and left Huelva 4 days ago! We’re not on the same pace ^^ We chat for a while and then he traces.
I’ll meet him at the first open café on the road, a few kilometres from Salamanca.
We talk a bit, he takes two tortilla tapas and gives me one ! I want to offer him a coffee, but no, the coffee is for the Tarde.
This little break was good, but it’s now nearly 2pm and it’s very hot.
I arrive in Salamanca, go to the flat reserved for the two nights here and... a shower and a nap!
